It is the property owner and installer’s responsibility to notify the inspector that when they are ready for inspection. The Inspection Request Form must be submitted to the appropriate office at the various stages of the project. The persons responsible for the installation are also responsible for supplying the inspector with all required papers prior to inspection.
Inspection Types and Requirements
Upon applying for a Part 8 permit or requesting a renovation review under Part 10/11, an inspector may conduct a site visit to the property within 5 to 10 business days. During this site visit the inspector will require three (3) test pits to have been dug within the area of the proposed septic system. The inspector will confirm that the site plan provided by the applicant accurately matches the site and will perform an inspection of the test pits to confirm the proposed septic system has been designed for the soil conditions on site.
Required documents that must be provided:
- A complete application package including:
- Site plan of the proposed septic system [see Schedule 7],
- Cross-section drawings with proposed elevations, and
- Test pit logs [see Schedule 6]

Property owners with ATUs (more elaborate than a conventional system) must have an annual maintenance contract under the Ontario Building Code.
