This urban oasis is located on the west bank of the Rideau River along Prince of Wales Drive in Barrhaven. A 1.5 boardwalk trail follows the natural river shoreline to the base of the Vimy Memorial Bridge. The site includes free parking and admission, a covered picnic shelter, scenic lookouts, fishing platform and an accessible dock for launching canoes and other paddlecrafts.
Accessible Dock
Make a day of your visit when you make use of Chapman’s public dock, picnic shelter and fishing platform, all located conveniently near the parking lot at the property’s north end. Launch your canoe or kayak safely using our dock’s accessible entrance features.
Trail
Follow Chapman’s beautiful boardwalk trail along the edge of the Rideau River as you explore a mix of natural river shoreline, wetlands and flood plain areas unique to the City of Ottawa. The 1.5 km out-and-back trail includes benches, interpretive signs and – if you look closely – a colony of fairies that reside in their brightly-coloured homes along the trail.
Please use caution on the water!
The Rideau River is part of a busy navigation channel. It is every boater's responsibility to know the hazards and to bring proper safety equipment. For a list of required equipment and complete rules and regulations, visit Transport Canada’s Office of Boating Safety and read the Safe Boating Guide. Please note that swimming is prohibited at Chapman Mills Conservation Area.
