APRIL 19, 2019 OTTAWA RIVER FROM ARNPRIOR TO L'ORIGINAL — The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA), in conjunction with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) and South Nation Conservation Authorities (SNC) is issuing a FLOOD WARNING for the areas under our jurisdiction along the Ottawa River. Significant rainfall (20 to 40 mm) has fallen over the Ottawa River basin since Thursday and an additional 20 to 35 mm of rain is expected by Saturday evening. Flood Watch - Ottawa River – Arnprior To Hawkesbury
APRIL 17, 2019: OTTAWA RIVER FROM ARNPRIOR TO HAWKESBURY — Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) in conjunction with the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), South Nation Conservation Authorities (SNC) and Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry (MNRF) Kemptville District, cautions residents along the Ottawa River that water levels are expected to increase significantly over the weekend and into next week. Levels are not expected to reach those observed at the height of the flood in 2017 at this time. May 13, 2019 —A FLOOD WATCH is being maintained for properties around Bobs Lake and Christie Lake. The water levels on both lakes continue to decline slowly and remain above average for this time of year. The current water level on Bobs Lake is above the ‘Full Supply’ threshold at which flood damage can occur. The current water level on Christie Lake is such that some flood damage can also occur. March 6, 2019 – The winter of 2018-19 has been an old-fashioned winter with lots of snow (over 250 cm to-date) and no significant thaw events. As such, the snowpack throughout the Rideau Valley Watershed is well above average. Current conditions at several RVCA snow course sites are indicating near record water content amounts in the snow for this time of year, generally not seen since the late 1970s. April 29, 2019 - Unlike the Ottawa River Watershed which is currently experiencing historic high water conditions, the water levels and flows in the Rideau Valley Watershed are declining and approaching seasonal levels in all waterways except for Bobs Lake and Christie Lake. The current forecast indicates between 35 mm and 50 mm of rain could fall later this week. This rainfall will have limited impact within the watershed except for Bobs Lake and Christie Lake where levels will likely increase. Significant Rain in Forecast Will Again Cause Water Levels to Increase Across the Rideau Valley Watershed
The current forecast is calling for rainfall amounts of 50 to 65 mm, with possibly more, from Thursday to Saturday across the Rideau Valley Watershed which will cause water levels and flows to increase above current conditions throughout the watershed. Flood conditions are expected start on Friday or Saturday in many areas depending on where the rainfall occurs and total amounts received. Some specific areas of concern are highlighted below. April 23, 2019 – Rainfall amounts close to 50 mm fell over much of the Rideau Valley Watershed between last Thursday through Saturday. This rain resulted in increased water levels and flows across the watershed over the Easter weekend. Conditions have now stabilized and water levels and flows are declining in all areas.
