  Toronto and Region Conservatio'sn SOSMART
  Scope and Goals

SMARTER’s region of interest includes Ontario’s south-eastern watersheds. The area of primary interest is defined as the area of Ontario included in the Quinte, Cataraqui, Crowe, Mississippi Valley, Rideau Valley, South Nation, and Raisin Region conservation authority jurisdictions (see SMART region map).

  The Team will:
  1. Form the core of a stream-monitoring and stream-research network, and maintain a list of priority research questions
  2. Share information, and collaborate on stream monitoring and
research, data management, fund-raising, and training programs
  3. Publish science and communicate results (with other SMART networks, as well as with other interested audiences) as a way of advancing stream science and distributing knowledge; organize stream-research workshops, presentations, educational updates, and current topics.
  4. Make science-based stream-management recommendations, and assist water-management agencies to use stream science to improve how eastern Ontario’s environment is managed
